Mrs. Munoz's Class

Welcome!

This is a classroom webpage that I have created in order to communicate and share important information with you at home.  I am hoping by creating this page families will have easier access to support within the community, and we can have a more cohesive way of working together on key concepts that we are covering in school.  Here I will be able to convey what our STEPS monthly themes are and what the topics are within our curriculum.  This will be a place where we can communicate as a classroom and share special announcements or upcoming events.

Our Class

Our classroom is the 3rd-5th grade moderate/severe special day class.  This moderate/severe classroom is part of the STEPS program.  Students who are within our program utilize an alternative curriculum.  The way we target instruction with each student is individual according to their IEP (Individualized Educational Program).

S T E P S

Specialized Training and Educational Programs for Students

Within our program we work on life skills curriculum to better prepare our students for their role in society.  It is our mission and very important while working with each student as an individual, we teach them the skills they need to become independent and advocate for themselves.  One of our biggest roles while teaching your child is how to interact and work alongside their general educaiton peers.  To comply with our offer of FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education), your student will be integrated with their general education peers to the fullest extent of their individual abilities.

Here at Highland Elementary our general education teachers are excellent about any and all inclusion opportuniites with our students' grade level peers.

Our Curriculum

The curriclum which we use in class is the Unique Learning Systems.  Unique Learning Systems is a common core alligned curriculum that modifies lessons according to a students instructional level.

When we have specific topics that we are covering I will send home supplemental letters to ask for materials from home or donations.  Listed below are some supplies that we use regularly and require a lot of througout the year.  Thank you ahead of time for your support!
